PHOTOS: Closeups of Mars from HiRise

The images below are tight croppings/edits from photographs taken by the HiRise camera (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) mounted to the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). To the right is an artists concept of it.

I was playing around in Microsofts Worldwide Telescope recently and started zooming in on these images and couldn't believe the beauty and detail. These are just a few that I made into wallpapers for home use.

Doesn't even really look like the surface of a planet. Looks to me more like microscopic images taken here on good ol' mama earth.

Click on these to see the detail. You won't believe the textures.
